I love my job, do you?

I am a physical therapist and I love what I am doing. It is very gratifying to help someone deal with their pain and get better, besides this one, I have many more reasons to keep doing this everyday:

Rewarding: it so is! it’s absolutely worth watching the outcome of your hard work in the form of smiles! And you don’t have to be a PT for that! (however I am biased towards it). You can achieve rewards in anything and everything you do. All you need to do is hard work and you ought to be rewarded!

Learning: I meet new people everyday, and it’s amazing how unique every person can be. My job teaches me to be calm when the patient is anxious with their injuries to understand their situation better. On the other hand, It teaches me to be in charge when patients are unconcerned about their problems. Every patient can teach you something worthwhile!

Purpose: I love my job and the role I play in every patient’s life, while they are in rehabilitation. It could simply be a solution in the form of posture correction that can make a difference in their daily life. These small achievements motivates me to do my job passionately and give my 100% towards my profession. We spend a significant part of our week (~40 hours) at work, better enjoy it! Find a purpose in doing your job and that will make you happy every day.

Empathy: My job teaches me to empathize with my patients, even when they are frustrated and volatile. Injuries can be hard and so can be the rehabilitation. All a patient wants is to be heard and understood how frustrating it is when injuries interfere in their daily routine! It teaches me to be all ears to help solve their problem better with compassion.

Creative: It develops a creative side of my personality. For every patient I meet, I refresh my perspective towards them, so that I can process their problem and come up with patient specific solution. For Eg: It could a 5th case of low back pain of the day with problems in sitting but will be completely unique from the others and will require a unique technique of pain free sitting specifically working for them.

We all are learning something everyday, each day can bring a unique experience to learn from, all it needs is perception for it! Look around and see what your job, people and surrounding has to offer you and you will find your love for it!!
