Shutdown, Lockdown, Isolation, Quarantine…this is all that we are hearing all day, everyday! It has a negative effect on us. Why wouldn’t it? It’s scary! But it’s the truth. While we have accepted it, have we taught beyond it? Are we clouding ourselves with this pessimism and unable to see the bright side to it?
We all are witnessing a crisis but we are ALL together in this unprecedented time. Look around you, while you experience quiet and curfew like atmosphere, you are able to hear nature better. While time seems to have stopped, let’s look at different ways to get going:
Find yourself: We all may have undergone a slowdown in our lives either for travel, sickness or simply when we were between jobs. However, an unplanned, sudden shutdown like this, feels like a restriction. This is going to make us spend a lot of time with ourselves. And that is important! This may be a good time to find more about yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses, your patience and your tolerance! Things that can affect you or things that don’t bother you at all! It could just be a journey to discover more things about ourselves in a critical time like this!
Friends and Family: In our busy lives with our scheduled routine, we all have been guilty of giving very little time to our families and friends. But guess what, everyone’s kind of free right now! This may be a great time to sit with your spouse, call an old friend, group chat with family, or even chat with your neighbor (while maintaining 6 feet distance!) Look at this as an opportunity to appreciate everyone who with their presence has made a difference to our lives!
Find a hobby: Think of everything you ever wished to learn! With so much time on your hands, you could experiment with different activities and find out if you have passion for it. Pick up a musical instrument to learn, or cook a dish, read a book, or learn a new language! You will either become an expert by the end of it or simply find out a new fact about yourself that you suck at it!
Mental health: I read this awesome quote somewhere, “If you can’t go outside, Go inside!” Probably, something we give least importance to! We all speak about how important physical health is and how you should gain more strength through everyday workouts. It’s true, we should! Especially since we are sitting at home a lot right now, we have to move and workout. But to keep a strong body moving, we all need a healthy mind! So, MEDITATE!! Since we are forced to stay indoors seeing the same faces all day, meditation can help to stay calm and patient. Now that you have time, make it a part of your routine and slowly integrate it into your busy lives!
Do some good: This is a catastrophe at its peak! This is the time when we, as humans, need help from each other to sustain in this crisis! We all have to come together to help each other get through this. How do we help? Simply by looking around in your community to find out who needs help. Reach out to older folks who are scared to step out for grocery, donate a couple bucks to someone who is struggling to survive, be considerate and don’t panic hoard resources, and if nothing else, then do your part by staying indoors and help in containing the spread!
Change is hard, uncertain, and gives us a feeling of fear of the unknown. But let’s take this opportunity to look at it with a different perspective, that this change too, can become a blessing in disguise!
