It will be foolish of us to think of this test as a simple one. It is long and vast but not as complicated as it sounds. I kept thinking of blog topics I could write to help people preparing for NPTE and I realized that I have been writing a lot on what to do, but there are things I wanted to pen down on WHAT NOT TO DO !!
Don’t think less of yourself – We can be our best judges but judgment should be optimistic. Every time I scored less or couldn’t answer something, I started thinking less of myself. But then I realized that, all you need to tell yourself is, I am a physical therapist and I know my stuff. If I have come this far, I can go even further
Quick tip: remind yourself that you CAN DO IT after 10 questions during the test and build up your own confidence.
Don’t confuse yourself – When I read more and more over social media, more questions, more content, I used get more and more confused as in what was important and what wasn’t. The only why through this and the exam is to stay headstrong. Stick to your plan and everything you have decided to study.
Quick tip: read the questions carefully and look for important words (make list of the words, if required) that can lead you to the answer
Don’t memorize – The content isn’t something you can learn/memorize by heart. It’s a lot but pretty much all that we know. This is not an exam to test what you know, instead you will be tested how you will apply all that you know.
Quick tip: relate and remember, draw diagrams, see videos and post notes to be able to remember concepts.
Don’t take it lightly – Passing this test is important and so is putting your 100%. It demands passion and sacrifice to put in 8-11 hours a day for preparation and study. Give it all it takes and get over with.
Quick tip: pace your studies, start with fewer hours in the beginning and than progressively increase in last month.
Don’t study alone – In my opinion, it is crucial to have a study partner/group/tutor to study with. It helps you gain confidence and stay updated, especially when you are lost. Staying connected and knowledge sharing can widen your thoughts and help you prepare better.
Quick tip: ask and clarify your doubts/concepts with your study partner as it comes along, don’t leave it for the end.
Don’t go all out – First step towards preparation is to know what you need to know for this test. Study just right, too much and too many books is not the best way to prepare for this one. Understand the objective of the test and then plan your way through till the end by making a strategic timetable.
Quick tip: make a list of 10-15 important topics for revision in last 1 month.
Don’t go unprepared- Give yourself the time you think you need according your own potential. Be honest to yourself and plan well, train yourself enough to built the endurance you require for the test and form a strategy, which will get you through this one.
Quick tip: give at least 8-10 practice tests to build up your endurance.
